San Diego Academic Tutor 5 ways to Improve Concentration
San Diego Academic Tutor 5 ways to Improve Concentration San Diego Academic Tutor Tips: 5 Ways to Improve Concentration Students have so many things to concentrate on these days, and theyâre encouraged to multitask at every turn. Unfortunately, so many difficult academic tasks can often lead to a serious amount of fatigue. When students are tired, they lose their concentration almost straight away, and that can make focusing on homework a major challenge. Once students develop this unhelpful cycle, the entire semester could be at risk. However, there are some great ways students can improve their concentration so they can get their work done efficiently and still have time left over to rest, relax, or just have some fun our private San Diego academic tutors are here to help you concentrate on your studies. 1. Block out the world Although its important for students to be able to work as a team and socialize, sometimes its better to block out the world when a student needs to do some serious studying. Finding a quiet study space is important, but students can also listen to ambient noises or relaxing music in their headphones to help block out noise in a coffee shop or school library. Students are also encouraged to shut down social media and put their cell phones in another room, so theyre not tempted to take a quick peek at what their friends are doing online â" which usually leads to several hours of social media surfing. 2. Meet with an organizational consultant Organizational and educational consultants have been working with students for years to help them make the study more efficient. In many cases, high school students are spending two hours completing an assignment worth two points and but spending 45 minutes trying to finish a three-page paper. Elementary and middle school students might not even understand what the percentage and points system means and dedicate equal time to every assignment regardless of what its worth. Organizational consultants can help students prioritize their time and manage different assignments by importance, often leaving them with more free time and increased concentration. 3. Boost self-esteem If students are worried about the grade they got on their last assignment or what their friends at school think about their contribution to the study group, theyre less likely to be able to maintain their focus. Its very normal for teens to have lots of different worries but those worries take away from mental focus. Its essential for students, at this age, to feel that their teachers and parents are proud of their work and receive compliments when they do something correctly. Students may also get a self-esteem boost from participating in sports or working on a creative activity. Its important they get to participate in something they excel in so that they can feel good about themselves and put that extra effort and focus on more difficult assignments (READ: San Diego Admissions Consulting: How Many Schools Should I Apply to?). 4. Limit time with electronics When students spend too much time on a tablet or laptop when not working on assignments, their eyes and brains can become overly fatigued. Students can spend some time in nature or just get a little bit of exercise to help counterbalance their lack of movement while studying or can download an app that cuts the amount of blue light theyâre exposed to during extended study sessions. 5. Sleep One of the simplest and most effective ways students can improve their focus is to get eight or more hours of sleep every night. Of course, this is easier said than done, especially for college prep students who are trying to fit in SAT or ACT study along with their regular academic courses. Regardless, students who are running on empty during the day will have a difficult time focusing and find that relatively easy tasks become difficult. Adequate sleep is the key to maintaining concentration throughout a studentâs academic career. Learn how to concentrate on your studies from our experienced San Diego academic tutors. What to Know About College Application Fee Waivers
What to Know About College Application Fee Waivers You Should Know About College Application Fee Waivers You Should Know About College Application Fee Waivers If you are applying to college and are in a difficult financial position, you should know about the prevalence of college application fee waivers for students in your position. Many parents and other adults know the application costs of applying to several schools and imprint this knowledge on younger students. Application fees for each individual college can range from $25 to $100, and if you are applying to several schools this can add up in a hurry. Luckily, there are ways to reduce this expense. Read below to find your situation. + You received an SAT or ACT fee waiver. If you already received for one of these fee waivers, it will allow you to automatically qualify for unlimited free fee waivers for schools that use the Common application, the Coalition application, or the Universal application. These three generic applications will grant you free access to around 1000 different colleges (about 800 of which are in the most popular Common application). You should receive your application fee waiver at the same time you receive your test results. Here is how you can qualify for an SAT or ACT waiver (from CollegeBoard): -Youre enrolled in (or eligible for) the National School Lunch Program -Youre enrolled in a program to assist low-income students -Your family receives public assistance -You live in subsidized housing or a foster home or are homeless -You are a ward of the state or an orphan + You didnt get an SAT or ACT waiver but still exhibit financial hardships If you havent taken these tests or did not know about the fee waivers, it is still possible to elect for a Common application fee waiver. This will allow you to apply to as many Common App schools as you want for free. The Common App has the same criteria for qualification as the SAT fee waiver (see above), with one extra criteria: You can provide a supporting statement from a school official, college access counselor, financial aid officer, or community leader (from CommonApp.org). Your school counselor will be asked to confirm your qualification for a fee waiver. Make sure you talk to them if you think you need one for your applications. + You dont qualify for either fee waiver or want to apply to non-waived schools First, you should know that around 45% of colleges on the Common App do now charge a fee (as of 2018, via USNews). This means that you have access to over 300 schools you can apply to without any charge. Many students do not realize this and assume that every application will cost them. You can also request fee waivers from schools. This is the part that can save you a lot of money if you are applying to many colleges and dont qualify for the standard waivers. Reach out to the schools that you want to apply to and request a fee waiver or fee reduction for their application. When doing so, you can explain your situation to support your need for a waiver, or you can simply ask. Colleges dont want to lose potential applicants, especially potentially desirable applicants, and most will have the funds readily available to waive many students application fees to encourage them to apply. Some colleges even send out application fees to students theyre interested in without being asked. The worst that can happen is that they deny your request or do not offer waivers. If this happens, you simply have to decide if it is still financially worth it to apply. Here are a few tips to aid you in requests: -Ask early. Admissions officers will be swamped with emails and applications in the month leading up to their deadline. Ask months in advance and they will be less busy. Asking early will also increase your chances if the school only offers a certain number of waivers per year. -State your case. Explain why you really want to apply to the school but that the cost is prohibitive for you to do so. If you were eligible for the waivers above, explain that to them. -Be polite and formal. Hopefully, this is obvious, but you do not want to be rude or short in your request. Treat an email as a regular letter with a friendly greeting and signature at the bottom. Application fees should never hold you back from applying to great colleges that can improve your future. Many schools are already free to apply to, and many others are able to waive your fee if you need it. Talk to your school counselor for more help in your application process. How to Find a Chinese Tutor Hourly Rate
How to Find a Chinese Tutor Hourly RateIt's no secret that some students need a Chinese tutor hourly rate more than others. Why? The answer is based on some simple methods that you can apply at your own pace.To start, you need to determine the specific needs of your tutor. Are they only teaching English or are they teaching Mandarin? If you're only going to be teaching English, then you'll need to determine what tutor's class you'll be in. If you're going to be tutoring Mandarin, then you may want to find out whether the instructor teaches both languages.Once you've decided which tutor you will be taking classes with, you have to decide on the time commitment you need. A tutor hourly rate for one day might not be the same as the hourly rate for five days. Do a little homework, and do your homework.Don't forget to inquire about any additional fees or extra charges if there are any. For example, most tutors charge by the hour, not by the session. If your tutor has to pay a deposit or s ome other type of fee for each class that you take, you want to make sure you ask them how much. The time commitment also depends on whether your tutor is a part-time or full-time tutor. Most full-time teachers will only teach one class per week. If you only take one class per week, then you won't get the benefit of a full-time teacher. Be sure to check out the day and time commitment of your tutor before you accept their offer. In terms of how you plan to pay for your private tutor, again, be honest. Some students end up paying through their credit cards while others will use a prepaid debit card. Regardless of the method you choose, it's important to make sure that you're covered in case something happens to your credit card or it gets stolen. In the end, finding a good teacher can be hard. As long as you follow the above guidelines, you should be able to find a great tutor for your Chinese classes.

How To Find The True Cost Of College
How To Find The True Cost Of College The price of college never seems simple to calculate. Theres tuition plus room and board, minus scholarships, plus random fees, minus financial aid, and on top of that, colleges are always changing those numbers. But good news for your migraine The U.S. Education Department recently stepped into the college rankings business to release a public Web site that lists the most and least expensive college, along with those with the steepest tuition hikes, according to an article in the Washington Post. The new site, collegecost.ed.gov. seeks to create more transparency around the net price of colleges, giving prospective students honest and accessible information on tuition, aid, completion rates and selectivity. Many colleges publish tuition figures or net prices which are supposed to be the actual cost of college; however, they dont always include administrative fees and other small costs. Colleges will try to trick students by tacking on extra costs, squeezing more money out of them. Tuition and financial aid can make it more difficult to determine an accurate cost. This site, which was mandated by federal law, adds to a large database of federal information on colleges and education. However, most of the previous federal data is not public and only available to researchers. Colleges will also be mandated to post net price calculators on their Web sites by fall 2011, giving prospective students and their parents exact, comprehensive numbers on how much they will actually pay to attend. Bates College in Maine ranked as the most expensive private colleges in 2009-10, with tuition, at $51,300. But, school officials say that the figure is exaggerated because the schools annual fee includes living expenses. Bates doesnt charge for tuition separately, and if it did, it would not rank as the nations most expensive school And therein lies another story, in that this particular list has an important apples-and-oranges aspect, inviting readers to compare comprehensive fees to tuition and fees only, with only an asterisk to note the significant difference between those two bases of comparison, Roland Adams, spokesman for the college told the Washington Post. Bates comprehensive fee is a statement of our total charges, and if all the schools listed were required to present that, there would undoubtedly be quite a different order of ranking overall.
Dont Make Excuses...Make Connections! - Introvert Whisperer
Introvert Whisperer / Donât Make Excuses...Make Connections! - Introvert Whisperer Donât Make ExcusesMake Connections! Career Attraction August 18, 2014 Communication, Dealing with Fear, Networking No responses Go to top There are plenty of reasons to dislike networking. It has the unfortunate perception of being an overused word that people use to trick professionals into attending an event in order to listen to every sales pitch under the sun. Not to mention the miles you have to drive, bad parking, avoiding cheesy pickup lines and having to repeatedly answer âSo what do you do?â If you think Iâm going to commiserate with you and tell you-youre right to avoid networking events, youâre wrong. (See the title of this blog!) All of those points above are excusesâ"but lucky for you, Iâm going to get you off your couch, out of your fuzzy slippers and networking in no time. Hereâs how you do it: Start by finding a friend who also needs to network. Not your drinking buddy or wingman, but another professional like yourself who is also looking for a job or seeking to increase clientele for his business. Then take this friend with you. Donât stand around speaking to your friend all evening. In fact, you shouldnât really speak to him much at all (with the below exception). Instead, before you go, find out what your friend is looking for, in detail. Then give your friend the same information about your goals. Who are you hoping to speak to this evening? What industry or job title are you specifically seeking? Once youâre both clear on the information you each need to procure, start working the roomâ"on opposite ends. (Literally, go to opposite ends of the venue and start speaking to people.) There are so many great benefits to this tactic: 1. Youâre not attending a networking event alone. Should you be cornered by the creepy guy uttering one-liners, you can extricate yourself from the conversation by saying your friend is waiting for youover there. Way over there. 2. By not attending alone, you are much less likely to manufacture an excuse as to why you shouldnât go. When someone is expecting you to meet them there or you are their ride to the event, your excuses begin to pale. 3. You have a second set of ears listening for opportunities for you. 4. You have someone who can make an introduction for you when they come across someone you need to meet. This is the exception to when itâs okay to chat with the friend you came with. Your friend is going to âtalk you upâ and say things you want to say about yourself but canât without sounding like an egomaniac. 5. If youre shy, this forces you to speak to people because you know your friend is expecting you to network on his behalf as well as your own. 6. It makes the process fun. You and your friend can get competitive and see who can find the most qualified professionals to speak to that evening. 7. You will meet many more people and thereby increase the chances of achieving your objective. If youâre looking for a job, make sure youâre networking in the right place. As a career strategist, I teach professionals how to get the job they want, and networking is the way to do it. But like anything, the right tool used incorrectly is completely useless. A job will not fall out of the sky and into your lap, so what is your strategy for getting the job you want? Whatâs working for you when it comes to networking? Or, better yet, if you try this strategy, tell us how it worked in the comments!
